Coach Scott Wittkop gave his CIF eighth-ranked boys’ varsity cross-country team last Saturday off in preparation for the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto on Saturday, Sept. 29. The freshman squad continued its dominance so far this season, winning at Dana Hills last Saturday for their third straight invitational victory. As a reward for their performance, freshmen Drake Butler and Penn Nielson have been promoted to varsity.

Laguna Beach recorded a team time of 1:30:08.40 and scored 49 points to beat Brea Olinda by a comfortable 26-point margin at Dana Hills.

Coach Steve Lalim’s eighth-ranked girls also made a good showing at Dana Hills in spite of the oppressive heat and humidity. “We had some good performances and several significant improvements from a year ago,” he said. “We’re going to continue to work hard as a team, striving to improve as we look forward to the League Cluster Meet on Wednesday at Godinez High School.”

The five top runners from Dana Hills were: Natalie Kimball (20:39), Monica White (21:21), Maddy Kristensen (21:46), Julia Nasiell (22:04), and Annie Brown            (22:09).
